Prayed last thing. It looks back over the day honestly — thanks for what was given, sorrow for what went wrong — and then lets it go.
O my God, I thank thee for all the favours thou hast bestowed upon me this day.
Give me light to see what sins I have committed,
and grant me the grace to be truly sorry for them.
Pause here, and look back over the day.
Watch over me while I take my rest,
and defend me from all danger of soul and body.
Into thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit.
Amen.

The prayer of sorrow for sin, said at the end of Confession and traditionally each night before sleep. Both the long and short forms are given.
The prayer to one’s guardian angel — usually the first prayer a Catholic child is taught after the Hail Mary, and one many people go on praying all their lives.
